John Holdway is an independent artist practicing primarily as a painter. He exhibits his work all over the world and extensively in the Pacific Northwest. Holdway grew up in College Park Maryland and studied Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore where he earned a BFA. He has lived in Eugene since 1997 and has steadily created and exhibited his work. He is popular art instructor and taught at many venues including Maude Kerns Art Center, Emerald Art Center and Pacific Northwest College of Art. Holdway is also active in the art community serving on the Exhibition Committee for Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts. He helped create the Teach Arts Program at Emerald Art Center and served as the first director. Currently he is working as a committee member for the Creative Sector Strategy group. He is a director/curator for the community-building project Moss Hollow Gallery.
